Desperation is at the center of A Raisin in the Sun. Through dialogue and significant repetition over the course of the play, Hansberry paints an image of both the dissatisfied nature of life and the hope of dreams. She demonstrates the things that people are willing to do to achieve their dreams and simultaneously designates the importance of specific dreams and aspirations that people, in general, tend to create for themselves.
